#48fortheFuture aims to jumpstart the post-crisis economy

#48fortheFuture is uniting EU and US tech communities to tackle the most burning topics that had an overwhelming impact on the global economy due the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is 48 for the Future?

It is a global online hackathon - fully ONLINE on 3-6 December - to jumpstart the post-crisis economy, which has become vulnerable and unknown by The COVID-19 pandemic.

Garage48 is looking for hundreds of creative problem solvers across EU and USA, who are visionaries, developers, marketers, entrepreneurs, engineers and field experts. Through the post hackathon support programme, winning teams will be able to reshape the future based on their game-changer business ideas.

The programme is supported by US Embassies in Northern Europe along with local leaders in entrepreneurship. You are invited to join us to build a stronger, more resilient and trusted post-crisis economy through innovative solutions, based on defined CHALLENGES & TOPICS.

Hackathon and Beyond

The program starts with a 72-hour online hackathon on 3-6 December 2020 and is followed by a 6-week pre-acceleration program for selected teams with a goal to turn the most promising prototypes into real products and implement them on the market.

Startup Wise Guys will welcome participants to their Online Pre-Accelerator (OPA) for 6 to 8 weeks, starting from mid-January.

Who’s the program for?

Garage48 aim to engage 500+ passionate tech-savvy and socially conscious problem solvers, along with dozens of mentors and community organizations across USA and Europe. No need to be a developer or engineer to join – experts needed from various fields including technology, marketing, design, business, healthcare, academic and so on.

Through our matchmaking sessions prior to the hackathon, teams will be formed and everybody will eventually end up in a troop that is composed of both American and European participants.

All you have to do is sign up as an individual participant or submit your idea on our form, and you’ll receive an invitation to the matchmaking sessions shortly via email.

Matchmaking events are scheduled on 28 and 29 November.

Those who have registered, receive an email for further instructions and a link to event in Slack.

Garage48 hackathon is a bulletproof format we’ve been running for over 10 years, in 26 countries and 48 cities so far where ideas get built into prototypes by newly formed teams supported by industry-leading mentors.

The 72 hours will be mainly spent with your team working on the idea hands-on. Participants will have access to mentors and the organizing team to guide you. There are 2 checkpoints each day, where mentors see the progress the teams have made in the meantime and help when needed. The goal for each team is to have a prototype developed by the end of the hackathon, that they will present as a demo video.

To sum it up, it means intense work from the kickoff on Thursday evening and lasts until Sunday when the deadline for the final video demo is.
